Stop weeds before they arrive.

Spring soil temperatures rise quickly and weed seeds that have been dormant all winter start to germinate. The only way to stop them is before they appear. A pre-emergent herbicide creates a barrier in the soil that prevents germination at the source.

Once you can see weeds, it is too late for a pre-emergent. Apply now, in early September, before the soil warms past the germination point.

Your lawn is hungry.

After months of slow growth and limited feeding, your lawn is ready to take up nutrients again. Spring feeding promotes thick, dense growth, strong colour and a root system that can handle the heat that is coming.

Start with a granular fertiliser in early spring when the lawn is still waking up. Then introduce a liquid product as it absorbs directly through the leaf and work faster than granular at this time of year. Follow up with a granular feed once growth has fully returned.

Make every drop count.

After a dry summer and winter, your soil can become hydrophobic, meaning water beads on the surface and runs off rather than soaking in. A liquid wetting agent breaks this down and allows water and nutrients to penetrate properly.

Apply a wetting agent as part of your spring program and your irrigation and rainfall will work far more efficiently. Less runoff, deeper penetration, healthier roots.

Build the foundation below.

Spring is the best time to invest in your root system. Deep, strong roots are what allow a lawn to handle the heat of an Australian summer without falling apart. A root builder and soil booster applied now gives your lawn the structure it needs to stay strong all season.

Bugs come with the warmth.

As temperatures rise through October, lawn pests become active. Black beetle, armyworm and sod webworm all cause serious damage and often go unnoticed until the lawn is already struggling. A preventative insecticide applied in spring gives you up to six months of protection before the problem ever starts.

If you are unsure whether you have pests, do a soapy water test. Pour a bucket of soapy water over a patch of lawn and wait three minutes. If anything crawls to the surface, treat immediately.
